Wow… January 27th already!?! And just posting my goals now… what the heck! Well even though the blog has been quiet, I have been very busy preparing my business to kick some ass in 2010:) Re-Branding, new logo, new marketing, new website, new blog, new album samples, new workflows, blah blah blah. It’s amazing how fast time is flying by already!
I love posting my goals on the blog because in theory it will hold me more accountable to follow the plan. In theory, LOL! The goals I set for 2008 & 2009 were far exceeded so it’s exciting to set some important goals and hopefully have a very successful year in my life, with my family and my business.
From what I learned in my time in the corporate world, is that your goals need to be SMART. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Timely. So in this post my goals will seem a bit vague but on my end, I will have more specific details to ensure I exceed my goals. So when I say a goal is to “lose weight and get in shape” (isn’t that always the first goal???)… I have a more detailed and timely plan that can be measured throughout the year.
GET FIT – Every year right!!! Why is this so darn hard??? Well, it must be #1 on my list. Anyone who does this work full time completely understands what a toll it can have on your body and mind. Need to get in shape and eat right!!! The goal is to get to 190 lbs again, exercise four times a week at least, drink lots of water and eat more natural foods, participate in a weekly sport or activity (besides weddings) and even get my yoga on:) Wish me luck!
KICK SOME ASS – I want to not only meet but exceed my business goals. (Set in my 2010 business plan) Always pushing myself to be the best I can be and the best there is:):) I want to learn, learn, learn and share, share, share. To me, learning and teaching are the same thing. Every time I share information with someone else, I also learn something. EVERYONE has something to teach, so it is a huge goal to connect with others and push my creative and technical knowledge in everything I do. Here are some things I have set to do and how I plan to kick more ass than ever before…
clients – My awesome clients make it easy! It’s gonna be a great year capturing the love! workshops – Always the best thing I do for my business and myself every year!!! In another three weeks I am off to my first workshop with Kenny Kim and friends for a week in Italy! I’ll share another post soon about workshops, how to find the best ones and what they can do for you. I have one or two more during 2010 later in the year to attend. connecting and having fun – Regularly meeting with other photographers, learning together and having fun. set time aside to be more creative – I will be outsourcing a few of my duties (editing, albums, etc) to give me more time to plan ideas with my clients to create amazing photography. So far, starting up with ShootQ has made this possible and very easy. I am working hard for some amazing imagery in 2010!
GET ORGANIZED – Yeah… what a year last year! This year will be much easier! Using ShootQ to help run the studio, outsourcing my post-production, steady wedding workflows including albums, and so much more. I’m gonna do what I love the most… taking photos and connecting with couples. I’ll get other professionals to take care of the rest:)
SPEAK UP – Speak in front of people… about photography or about the photography business. This is such a helpful process!! I plan to gain some confidence and learn more about myself by doing so.
GET HELP – Find some interns willing to help my business while in turn learning a lot. Not sure if I should call it an Intern position or an Understudy position?? What do you think?? Stay tuned for a post all about this and how you can apply.
FIVE ADVENTURES – Sounds fun! AT LEAST 5 adventures with my wife (and perhaps the kids) in 2010. What does adventure mean??? Not just out to the most expensive restaurant in town, LOL! I mean packing up and going out to see the world! First one is in a couple weeks and I have a few more surprises for Amanda in 2010:)
READ A BOOK – 20 books read in 2010. Sounds easy but not for my attention span, LOL! Already finished an amazing book that has helped me and my business:) Check out The Purple Cow and I will share more reviews during the year.
BUCKET LIST (2010) – A simple list of things to accomplish or experience before the end of 2010…
- finish new studio before end of April - all new marketing materials including new logo, blog, website and albums done before end of April. - shoot in 3 countries I have never visited - keep the family car clean (after it has been cleaned) - double my blog traffic - walk the dog everyday - second shoot for someone I admire - give a workshop - help make 10 mothers of the bride to cry and 1 dad - play on a team - use flash outdoors when its bright - Add two prime lenses to my bag - blog less and have clients over to the studio for slideshow presentations of their wedding - throw a photographer party, yah!! - play Rockband with Amanda and Bethany at least once a month:):) - find my own “fusion” style in 2009… probably about 5 or 6 weddings this year

Kudos. Those are great! And please accept my early application for second shooting for you.
Hi Curtis,
I love that you posted your goals
I think you should try out a hot yoga class at Moksha Yoga Winnipeg. They offer 60 minute Moksha classes. I have been doing yoga there for a while now and I love it! They have a great intro rates for newbies… $20 for 7 days unlimited. The room is around 40C, you’ll sweat lots (lots might be an understatement!! LOL ) AND drink your water… it’s also very therapeutic if you have any issues such as back pain and helps with weight loss. The heat does wonders.
Good luck with all of your goals!!!
LOVE this Curtis! I love your work and would LOVE to learn from you…..
Awesome goals
A tip on the “get fit” one, treat yourself to a trainer! You’ll see results so much sooner and it really helps keep you accountable to someone. (holy, can you tell I’m getting in shape for my dress?) Best of luck
Those are great goals. I am actually going to follow in your footsteps and use some of your goals.
Great work!
GREAT post… inspiring… need to do this myself…
my goal for like 5 years has been to lose weight/get in shape… well, I finally started in Nov…. I’ve lost about 25+/- pounds… at 181 now… trying to get to 165…
you can do it!! (for me it’s been ENTIRELY changing my eating habits…) have a feeling when I start my excercise routine I’ll shed even more pretty quick.
seriously inspired by this list… going home and starting mine tonight!
You have just rocked my world with this post! Your imagery is breathtaking BTW. I just love your bucket list… (especially walk the dog more and keep the car clean..lol) – Thanks for being so inspiring and making me laugh.
