Italy Tour – Day One…03.12.10

Hey everyone, sorry for the wait on this but since my new blog is still in design I though I should get some images up:):)  I have my alarm set to go off twice a day and I plan to post new pics every time it goes off (I’m certainly gonna try:)

So welcome to beautiful Italy – Day one!  I arrived after a long journey the night prior to this and stayed in Rome for the evening.  I got lost even before I found my luggage, LOL! It was such a cool feeling… like being in a castle:)  I walked around Rome in the evening and hit up a Scottish Pub for dinner. Everyone in there was glued to the TV watching an important soccer game (I guess, LOL).  Sorry, I’m not a soccer fan.  Later that evening I fried a couple pieces of my travel equipment due to a cheap converter I bought from Walmart before I left.  Tip: Buy your adapters in Italy and not in Canada! I’ll show you more of Rome from our second week later.

The next morning I trained it back to the airport to meet up with the rest of the gang attending the Kenny Kim Workshop.  First off… I packed WAY to heavy!!!  Lesson learned:):)  It was fun to meet all the awesome peeps attending… so nice!!  I was the only Canadian, there was one person from the UK and the rest from the States.  I believe I have pics of all of them so I will pimp them when they come up.  We travelled with our awesome tour guide in a bus and got to know each other talking while we travelled.

Our hotel destination was in the beautiful Amalfi but before we got there, we stopped for a tour in the old Pompei. What a cool place!  This Roman city was destroyed in 79AD from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.  It was lost for nearly 1600 years and found in 1592.  We had a personal tour guide and it was so neat to hear all the technology and ways of living back then!

We then arrived to our hotel in Amalfi.  Amalfi was such a surprise for me… I had no idea how beautiful it would be:)  One second we were driving down a simple road and around the corner we found ourselves on top of a massive cliff filled with houses facing the ocean.  It literally took my breath away!  We arrived to our hotel and relaxed for a bit before dinner.  We could only get an internet connection in the hotel lobby which was kinda great because all of us would hang out there all the time, LOL!  What a dinner!  Max has all the hook ups so we always ate somewhere very cool!  They have dinner late in Italy usually starting at 8:30… that means we had to fill in the gaps with Gelato:):)  Thanks and stay tuned for day 2!

The entrance to Pompei.

The label says “old”, LOL!

In order to get some preserved bodies from the old city, they poured a liquid into the ground to create a mould.  This is exactly the position this person was in when he was killed from the Volcano 2000 years ago.

The awesome Kenny Kim:)

Yes… this is exactly what it looks like, LOL!  This way for sex!!  Below is one of the pics above each door in the old brothel.  Just like a McDonald’s menu:)

Kenny Nakai from Chicago

Matt Savage from Avery House in Chigago

This church was the center piece in the town square and is the view from our hotel.  It was beautiful but it was also the town clock.  It rang every 15 minutes to tell you what time it was:):)  We had a lot of fun taking pics on these steps:):)

  1. Looooove the single window shot and the Amalfi church.
