I’ve photographed many a Jewish wedding in winnipeg before, but this one was next level. Some weddings feel like a celebration, but Skye & Sarah’s two-day masterpiece was a full-on adventure of love, tradition, and non-stop fun. With Skye’s fascinating career as a volcanologist (yes, that’s the term!) taking them to Alaska, and Sarah’s important work as a lawyer fighting for better laws, it was only fitting that their love story brought them back to Winnipeg for a truly epic Jewish wedding celebration.

The festivities kicked off with an unforgettable Day One. Over 200 of their closest family and friends gathered at The Forks to gear up for a group bike ride to St. Vital Park. After that, things got a little wilder: thanks to Winnipeg Canoe Rentals, the crew hit the river in party boats and canoes (complete with a floating bar!) for a scenic paddle back to The Forks. As the sun dipped lower, the celebration ramped up with the Bedekin ceremony, featuring an orchestra leading the way across the Provencher Bridge. This magical procession ended inside the open-roofed St. Boniface Cathedral, where candlelit dining and heartfelt toasts left everyone teary-eyed.

Day Two was where things really went next-level. The couple transformed a rustic barn into a lively music festival and wedding venue. Guests enjoyed everything from a petting zoo and archery to arts and crafts. Even the bees seemed to join the celebration, buzzing around the property to produce enough honey for every guest. Keeping the energy high, the legendary Al Simmons (yes, the Juno-award-winning entertainer) emceed the event, bringing laughter and cheers between live performances from family-favorite bands like The Hairy Prairies and Hillbilly Burlesque.

As the sun set on the farm, it was time for the main event. Under a stunning chuppah, Skye & Sarah tied the knot in a moving traditional Jewish wedding ceremony filled with rituals, laughter, and tears of joy. The moment their kiss sealed the deal, the music picked up for the hora, kicking off a wild dance party that lasted well into the night.

This wedding was as heartwarming as it was adventurous, and being part of it was an absolute honor. Massive kudos to The Adventure School for pulling off such a logistically complex and beautiful celebration, alongside so many incredible Winnipeg vendors.
