WINNIPEG ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

Hi Curtis, why is getting an engagement session before our wedding important?

It’s your day. You need to feel comfortable, I want to take photos that are meaningful to you. I want to surprise you with photos that you didn’t even know you wanted until I show them to you. You want photos that get to the heart of you and the person you love, not photos that reflect a photographer’s favourite pose. I get that, and that’s what I want for you too! I’ll take you to a place that has sentimental meaning to you or one of the numerous beautiful country or city locations where I love to shoot. I’ll create relaxed, romantic, and fun images of the two of you.

Why Have an Engagement Session?

Engagement sessions are a perfect way to capture creative and casual photographs before your wedding day. Many of my clients use these images to create save-the-date cards, make canvas prints for their home, use them for their wedding day slideshow or wedding guest book, or simply to share on social media. Engagement sessions should be fun and relaxing, and it’s also the best way to see how I work as a photographer firsthand.

Aside from having creative photos of the two of you, this session is when we really get to know each other. For wedding clients, it’s the perfect way for us to learn about each other’s personalities and get comfortable in front of the camera.

Engagement Sessions for Everyone

Engagement sessions are usually always included in all of my collections. But even if I’m not your wedding photographer or if you don’t have a wedding planned yet, you can still book an engagement session with me. The price is $500 and includes a one-hour session with me, all of the high-resolution printable files, and an online gallery to view, download, share, or order professional print art of your photos.

Don’t Forget Surprise Proposals

Surprise proposals are so fun and precious to capture. Yes, I will photograph while hiding in the bushes, or I’ve even arranged a fake meeting with couples to surprise one of them with a ring while I photograph it. Capturing the moment of surprise and joy is one of the most rewarding experiences as a photographer.

Travel for Engagement Sessions

I have captured engagement sessions all over the world for my couples. Just because you are getting married in Winnipeg, doesn’t mean we can’t do an engagement session in BanfF, Toronto, New York, New Orleans, Italy, or Iceland, to name a few. I love traveling and am always excited to explore new locations with my couples.

Preparing for Your Session

Properly preparing for an engagement session can help alleviate the nerves that accompany being photographed. For most couples, this will be the first time they’re ever photographed professionally, which can feel pretty daunting. It’s also common for one member of the couple to be more excited for the engagement shoot than the other. I’m often told by couples that they’re awkward in front of the camera or they’re not photogenic.

I promise this isn’t true, and I have all the tricks and tools to give you the confidence you need to feel great in front of a camera. But also, let me be honest… I always tell my clients that the first 15 to 20 minutes will be awkward for all of us. That doesn’t mean I won’t get great photos during then, but after telling them this, I find they feel a lot more relaxed about what to expect, and once we hit a flow, it’s all good baby.

What to Expect

My engagement sessions are fun and relaxed. I try to avoid posing, instead offering prompts that allow you and your partner to share organic moments together. That doesn’t mean that I won’t offer suggestions, ask you to move a hand, or look in a certain direction; it simply means that I won’t micromanage your every move, resulting in photos that are more natural.

We’ll spend our time together exploring and creating, which will provide you with a beautiful set of images that you can use for save-the-dates, guest books, or simply to have as a keepsake of this special time in your life.
