1. How to Plan Winnipeg Wedding Photography with the Perfect Timeline
The flow of your wedding day directly impacts your photos. Here’s how to build a schedule that works for you while ensuring stunning images:
⏰ Morning/Early Afternoon (Getting Ready – 1.5 hours)
• Choose a well-lit, clutter-free space. Natural light is ideal, but I personally handle any lighting challenges if needed.
• Keep details (rings, invites, dress, shoes) in one spot for easy access. Your photographer will capture beautiful flat-lay photos of all your special details!
• Want a special moment? Consider a first look with your bridal party, parents, or a sibling for those emotional reactions.
• Your Photographer can arrive approx an hour before you put your dress on.

📸 Early Afternoon (First Look & Creative Portraits – 1.5 to 2 hours)
• Thinking about a First Look? It’s a great way to calm nerves and enjoy a private moment before the ceremony, photograph portraits in your peak non-tiredness, spend more of your day together and enjoy a second emotional “first look” moment at your ceremony together.
• Not into seeing each other before the ceremony? That’s totally fine! You can still create a killer schedule that keeps the excitement and flow of the day perfect.
• Winnipeg’s top photo spots? The Forks, Assiniboine Park, and the Exchange District. I’ll cover more location options further below.

⛪ Late Afternoon (Ceremony – 15 to 60 minutes)
• For outdoor summer weddings, late afternoon (4–5 PM) is best for soft, flattering light.
• Indoor weddings? Natural light is great, but I can work with any lighting challenge to create stunning images.
• Having an earlier traditional church wedding? Not a problem, you just switch things around, get married first and then do creative portraits before the reception.

🎉 Evening (Reception & Golden Hour Photos – 3+ hours)
• Golden Hour (10-15 mins) is all you need for breathtaking, dreamy photos. These will likely be some of your absolute favourites!
• Winter weddings? Don’t overlook beautifully moody nighttime portraits. Snowfall and soft city lights can create incredible wedding shots.
• Your MC matters! A good MC keeps the night flowing smoothly and stays connected with your photographer so we’re prepared for toasts, first dances, and special moments.
• Enjoy your first dance! Hold each other close, but remember—you’re being photographed and videoed! Save the big head-hiding hugs for the end. Laugh, talk, and be romantic—I’ll capture the real moments.
• Don’t run away from the dance floor right after! The more you dance, the more your guests will too. Stick around for at least 20 minutes before heading off to mingle, grab a drink, and take in the moment.
💡 Final Timeline Tip: The best thing you can do is hire an experienced wedding photographer who knows how to handle scheduling conflicts like a seamless pro. No matter what timing setbacks happen, I’ll make sure your wedding day experience runs smoothly.

🌿 Natural & Romantic: Assiniboine Park, The Leaf area & Bio Dome, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, St. Norbert Ruins
🏙️ Urban & Modern: Exchange District, The Forks, Provencher Bridge, Canadian Museum for Human Rights
❄️ Winter Wonderland: The Legislative Building, Upper Fort Garry, St Boniface Cathedral
This is just a fraction of amazing spots for photos on your wedding day. What if there is a place you love but maybe there is a big event taking place that day? Check out my list of best photo locations in Winnipeg here.

3. Fun & Essential Wedding Photography Tips for Winnipeg Couples

✅ Have a Backup Plan for Weather – Winnipeg weather is unpredictable. Have cute umbrellas or an indoor option ready, just in case. ( I do always bring a handful of clear umbrellas, make the best of that rain on your wedding day!)

✅ Limit Locations on Wedding Day – Too much travel = less time for photos. Stick to 1-2 key spots near your venue.

✅ Golden Hour is Magic – Schedule just 10-15 minutes for this, but trust me—it’s 100% worth it.

✅ Unplugged Ceremony? – Consider asking guests to put their phones down so your pro photographer can capture the real moment.

✅ Thinking of Including Your Dog in Your Wedding? – If your dog is part of your family, why not include them in your big day? Getting ready at home makes this easy, but if you want a professional dog wrangler to coordinate everything, check out Bark Wedding Day Co! They specialize in handling pets at weddings so you can focus on celebrating while still getting adorable photos with your pup!

✅ Want to Get Comfortable in Front of the Camera? – The best way to feel relaxed and natural in your wedding photos is to practice beforehand. That’s exactly why I include an Engagement Session in all my wedding packages! It’s the perfect way for us to get to know each other, build confidence in front of the camera, and create some amazing pre-wedding photos.

✅ Plan Your Traditional Family Photos Beforehand – Family photos can be one of the most chaotic moments of your wedding day—unless you plan ahead!
• Create a family photo list before the wedding and give it to your photographer (or assign a family wrangler to help organize everyone).
• Get approval from the moms beforehand—trust me, it makes things much smoother!
• Think about what you’d want on a wall in your home—this helps decide which groupings matter most.
• I always joke that this is the most stressful part of the day 😂, but when done right, it should take 20 minutes max!

✅ Trust the Process – The best photos aren’t always posed. Some of the most meaningful moments come when you’re just being yourselves.
